I am astoundingly tired at the moment and still have a lot of things to check off my to-do list before heading out to Stanford and getting my spine stabbed, so here’s a few updates, for as long as this cup of coffee I’m drinking lasts.

For Den of Geek, I wrote about Star Trek and Shakespeare. This one’s kind of a broad overview of the relationship, and how classical literature was a big influence on Gene Roddenberry in the early days.
This isn’t the first time I’ve written about Trek and Shakespeare — if you’re interested in how, within the in-universe continuity of Star Trek, William Shakespeare is almost certainly a Klingon, that’s one up here — and it probably isn’t the last time, either.
It’s funny, I never used to consider myself a big Star Trek fan, despite watching a lot of the Original Series and Next Generation as a kid — probably because of the Trekkie stigma: you were a nerd for liking Star Wars, but a tolerable kind of nerd; liking Star Trek was another level of social pariahism entirely — man, the ’90s were a dark time for geekdom — but, lately, I’m watching more Trek than Wars, and, on the whole, I’m definitely enjoying it more. I mean, Andor is the gold standard for Star-branded television in the last few years, but even a bad Trek episode isn’t as bad as The Book of Boba Fett.

In writing news, Atomic Carnival Books hit its fundraising goal and now it’s full steam ahead for both anthologies. Submissions are open until June 30th; you can find more info here. You can also subscribe to ACB’s Substack if you want to keep up-to-date with all the publishing updates as they’re … dated up. I’m not really sure that last bit landed, but coffee’s almost out, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I’m still a long way from getting caught up on submissions, but I am making headway, and I think I have a good idea where the anthologies are headed now. Very exciting times.
Finally, the Kickstarter campaign unlocked a Frankenstein novella by yours truly. I was a little all over the place brainstorming, but, after a serendipitous double-feature of The Killer Shrews and Re-Animator, I think I know what I’m doing. Tentatively, the title is The Island of 1,000 Frankensteins and, uh, it’s going to be a lot.
Right, well, coffee’s done and I’m mostly awake now and I’ve gotta go get the car washed, so see you all on the flip. Hopefully my head will be fixed by then and I’ll be able to concentrate for more than five minutes at a time.
